Cumberland Mustard has been made in Alston, market town of the North Pennines since 1984, by Geoffrey Cole and his partner Marilyn Avens.

Both "in comers" to the area; in the 1970's we started making this exotic mustard as Christmas gifts for friends. Within a year after encouragement from a local gourmet and a government grant we were in business and supplying an ever expanding circle of delicatessens, regional supermarkets, pubs and hotels.

We still maintain our independent status and still deliver to customers in the area ourselves. We also  appear in many of the country shows and offer visitors to our stall a free taster, not only do we eat a lot of our own products but also use mainly Cumbrian foods especially delicious lamb, trout, salmon and beef.

In 1999 we introduced an organic version of our most popular mustard "Original". This compliments our range of 7 flavours. We also produce a Raspberry Vinegar. Made from Cumbrian raspberries with the best intense colour and flavour. We may start selling this on this web site, so keep checking back!

We've been members of Cumbria Fine Foods, now North West Fine Foods, since it's inception as a regional food manufacturers support and advice group. Now more specifically there is a marketing wing of Made in Cumbria which supports Cumbrian food manufacturers with a marquee for tastings and sales at many of the summer events in the Lake District. Check out the shows page and come and see us!
