Alternatively Al to Scotch Corner, then take A66 to Penrith and make a right turn for Barnard Castle; go on to Middleton in Teesdale then, passing High Force, follow the road over the moors and make a left turn into Garrigill (there is a sign for the George & Dragon). At the bottom of the hill, turn left and over the bridge into the village. The George and Dragon will be on your left hand side.
